As a partner to BMW for many years now, ARRI Media, together with Lead Medien Produktion Rekorder GmbH, once again proved its expertise in the design and realization of this year's film content for the IAA show in Frankfurt.
 
In addition to providing content in various different formats for the around 30 secondary media displays and LED screens, producing the 20-minute main film was one of the central tasks assigned to ARRI Media. The film comprised real and CGI sequences that added dramatic impact to the presentation of the motor vehicles on stage.
 
Three main LED screens with a total resolution of 9K (active LED area of 48m x 7.2m) and another seven kinetic LED panels hung from the ceiling were used to show the film material. They could all be programmed to match the content and storyline of the various subjects covered.
 
One special challenge here was in creating photorealistic CGI animations in a resolution of up to 9K and the corresponding quality, which to some extent could react to the vehicles' choreography.
 
The facts:
9,768,014 rendered frames, 35 TB rendering output with 393 days of rendering time divided up between 40 render nodes with a total of 3.1 THz computing power on 1446 processor cores.
